Discovering the real Venice, one story at a time
There’s something special about discovering Venice with someone who truly lives it.
Over time, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting some exceptional, certified local guides, people who don’t just know Venice’s history and monuments, but understand its rhythms, its quiet corners, and the many ways it continues to surprise.
And while The Red House Company doesn’t offer guided tours directly, we’re always happy to connect our guests with trusted professionals who can help them see the city from the inside.
Because Venice isn’t just a place to visit, it’s a place to read slowly, like a story unfolding over bridges and canals.
A local guide helps you notice what you’d otherwise pass by: a forgotten inscription, a door that once led to a noble palazzo, or a church with an unassuming façade and a ceiling that will leave you breathless.
Some of the guides we work with are Venetians by birth, with deep family ties to the city — one even has an ancestor who mapped Venice in the 1600s. Others arrived here from across the world and never left. What they share is a love for Venice that’s both passionate and protective.
They know the places that still feel untouched, the views that take your breath away not because they’re famous, but because they’re quietly perfect. Some bring guests to rooftops rarely accessible to the public, others love the joy of crafting entirely new tours around what fascinates them at that moment, turning personal research into shared experience.
“My relationship with Venice is a love story,”
she told us.
She loves showing people the real neighborhoods, the ones she walks through with her children, where laundry hangs between windows and a church that looks plain from the outside holds one of the most astonishing ceilings in the world.
“What I love most is seeing visitors change their minds about Venice. Many come expecting a postcard… and leave wanting to stay forever.”
We believe that walking through Venice with someone who calls it home is more than informative, it’s inspiring.
And perhaps the most meaningful way to honour this extraordinary city is to discover it with someone who loves it deeply, and knows how to share that love with intelligence and grace.
